Welcome to the 2020 Broughton Pageant of Transport....
Following on from our inaugural event in 2017, we would like to welcome you all to the 2020 Broughton Pageant of Transport. It seems that everyone has enjoyed the event for the last three years, and with comments like ‘’here’s to next year’’, I suppose that this, with due consideration, is what persuaded us to do it again. So here we are once again.
The whole concept has been to make it a true Pageant which, according to the Oxford dictionary, is ‘a brilliant spectacle’, so we have tried to broaden the transport theme to include air as well as water, in fact any form of transport.
Carrying on from last year, your entrance tickets includes a voting slip. We hope you take your time and vote for your favourite exhibit. Once done, just return your slips to the Pageant tent/control area and see if everyone agrees with your choice.the winner will receive a modest trophy.
We have retained the Road Run - all we ask is for a donation, and you get the chance to go in something special. This could be Vintage or Classic, American Muscle or maybe a Custom. Passenger seats will be auctioned on the day.
Other forms of entertainment, we have the Funfair Attractions back and also other attractions for youngsters including rides on Model Traction Engines.
Lots of wonderful, top quality, food and drink will be available - we are at present in discussion with various providers - and we will also once again have the bar at the Broughton Sports Club House open.
But the thing we must not forget to mention of course is the cars, bikes, tractors and all who go to make this event possible. From the individuals we have the return of Molly, the Ford Popular, and the Morris Minor Panda car of Bob Long. From the exotic we are well represented with British Marques from Bristol, Jensen and Aston Martin. If it is muscle you want then how about a Dodge Challenger or maybe a Hot Rod or two. For something unusual we have a Mini fitted with a V-Tec engine, or a Dolomite Sprint that can cover 0-60 in 5.38 seconds. Then there’s the 1898 Benz which we hope will be able to attend. This is over 120 years old and the incredible thing is that it’s been in the same family since new.
We also have a good selection of motorcycles ranging from 1930 upwards with, at the time or writing, a 1980 CBX. This is a very rare bike and for those who remember, made 6-cylinder ownership possible with reliability.
Then we have the many other forms of transport, not forgetting the excellent selection from the agricultural side. Please do take a look for a 1940 Marshall that uses a shotgun cartridge to start it. Lastly there is the Military Collection which are all local exhibits.
Also we welcome the Car Clubs who have increased in number from last year. All of these Clubs are local regional groups though they are also major organisations in their own right. They carry a wealth of knowledge and expertise, and are certainly well worth talking to.
Finally we thank you for supporting our event. We have tried to bring some new ideas, to retain some old favourites, and to keep true to the theme. We hope you all enjoy the day, and please tell us what you think.
